What is it, and why do I need it?
The Helix DN9848E System Controller Remote Control Software is one of the AddIns to the Midas and Klark Teknik’s Elgar Shell. The Helix DN9848E System Controller Remote Control Software (RCS) allows the user to add up to 16 units of Helix DN9848E or DN9848 and to store and retrieve the data to their PC. Users can also edit the data offline on their PC.

The major version number of 4 indicates that it interoperates at a communications level with all other Klark Teknik products running version 4.xx – this includes DN9340, DN9344, Helix DN9340E, Helix DN9344E, DN9848, DN9848E other Elgar AddIns and so on. Note that it is possible to run products with version 3.xx and 4.xx side-by-side, but they must have separate communication paths, and the version of the Host Code and AddIn must have the same protocol. Version 4.01 contains the following features:
Control of both DN9848 and DN9848E units from the same interface
Full Grouping functionality, with offsets: change the parameters of multiple units with a single control
Full PC memory support – the PC can store and recall all User and System memories in all units, and memories can be copied and moved between units easily
Storage of H1000RCS, DN9340/44/, Helix DN9340E/44E, DN9848 and Helix DN9848E memories and Elgar setup in a single file
Managed communication over Ethernet or Serial using the Elgar KT Comms Manager
Several minor fixes.
IMPORTANT NOTE
If you are upgrading from version 3.02 host code or earlier, you must run the Memory Extractor utility program supplied as part of the 4.01 download before upgrading the unit. Failure to do this will result in the loss of all preset information
Note on use of memory extraction utility with V4.04 software for DN9848.
The Memory Extraction program included in the installer for this release will operate with any previous version of DN9848 host code. This enables the operator to use it to gather and save the contents of the DN9848, then use the KTG Program Manager utility to load new host code into the DN9848, and then use the Memory Extractor again to re-insert all the saved program information back into the DN9848 without losing anything.
What do I need to do it, and how do I go about doing it?
To create or edit data on DN9848 or Helix DN9848E, you will need:
Microsoft .Net framework V1.1. This must be installed on your PC prior to installing the Helix RCS. Visit the Microsoft website to find the correct language version for your PC. We also strongly recommend you run Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) to make sure all your PC components are fully up to date.
DN9848/E version 4.01 or later Host Code loaded on the Helix units.
A PC display resolution of at least 1024x768 pixels.
Windows 2000 or Windows XP. (Windows 98 is NOT supported)
The minimum specification that the software can be expected to run on is:
Pentium 3 500Mhz (or equivalent)
256MB RAM
10MB free disc space
CDROM (for installation)
One of either a standard Ethernet connection (DN9848E, DN9848 and WPK-1 kit) or 1 COM port (DN9848 and DN9848E) to connect to a DN9848/E system controller
(Note that the fewer devices you add to the Elgar Shell, the faster it will be)
